I’ve got a bunch of apples that I’d like to can. Of course I’m going to make a ton of unsweetened applesauce, but I’d also like to can apple pie filling or apple slices. Anybody have a good recipe?

Crock Pot Apple Butter
This isn’t canned, but I randomly found this apple bread recipe today on another blog and thought it looked tasty: http://beckerfarms.blogspot.com/2009/09/fall-festival-my-favorite-fall-recipe.html
no good recipes here for canned applie pie filling, I just make a pie and freeze. My cousin makes the best canned apple pie and peache pie fillings, but we haven’t ween any of that the last couple of years.
Abbie, I read this recipe for “apple pie in a jar” the other day on a blog. It seems to have quite a bit of sugar but isn’t something anyone would be eating daily, so it seems alright for a special occassion food.
Here’s the link: http://theinspiredroom.net/2009/10/15/hostess-gift-apple-pie-in-a-jar/
It looks very pretty in the jar!
I know you are looking for Apple Pie Filling recipes but, this is hands down my family’s favorite apple jam recipe:
(and it’s easy!)
Spiced Apple Marmalade
3 (2-inch) cinnamon sticks
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 fresh orange, unpeeled, quartered, seeds removed, thinly sliced
6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped (6 cups)
2 cups water
1/4 cup orange juice
5 cups sugar
In an 8- to 10-quart kettle, combine spices, orange slices, apples, water and orange juice. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until apples are tender, about 10 minutes.
Add sugar. Boil for 15 minutes, until the mixture is thick and clear, or until it sheets when poured from a metal spoon. Remove from heat and skim off foam. Pour at once into hot, sterile jars. Wipe jar rims clean and seal. Makes 3 pints.
When I had that many apples, I made apple butter, and we ate it all winter. I don’t think I ever tasted anything quite as good. Beautiful apples btw.~~Dee
Dried apple pieces or rings are a wonderful snack!!
