Best in Show!

Not only did my butternut squash pie win a blue ribbon in the “Miscellaneous” pie category, it won the rosette for BEST IN SHOW for pies.  The apple pie didn’t win anything, but that’s okay.  The rosette makes up for it!

My family’s fruit display also won BEST IN SHOW! We got a rosette and trophy! Yay!

  2. Ab,

I noticed that your pie was almost gone–the judges must have loved it! BEST IN SHOW is awesome! You are an incredible baker (probably due to years of experience) and the judges tasted that! Grandma Rose would be so proud that you won with her recipe! Butternut squash makes the best pie ever!

Also, thanks again for all your help and expertise on the Fruit Display. We couldn’t have done it without you!

What a beautiful night it was tonight at the fair and seeing those rosettes made it all the more fun.

Can’t wait to see your brothers’ tractor in the parade tomorrow!

    Congrats again!

  3. Congratulations! That’s wonderful!

  4. YUM-o! I still haven’t tried this recipe, I’m ashamed to admit. I’ve been dodging the pumpkin puree in the freezer. The toddler size banana squash lingering around the front yard are a bit harder to ignore. Might have to get my Abbie on this weekend.

  5. Well, I didn’t see that one coming! Congratulations– in honor of your blue ribbons I think I will have to bake a couple of those pies again. Now when I serve them to company I can claim them as “Abbie’s Best In Show Pies”!

Thanks, everybody! I jokingly told Ed that I’m going to rename this pie my “Best in Show Butternut Squash Pie.”

GB- What are you waiting for! This is a BEST IN SHOW pie! Get baking!

  7. Awesome. I haven’t seen a butternut at the Farmer’s Market around here yet this year, but when I do I plan to make this — I’ll have to share this recipe with my Grandmother as well — back in the day she had some prize winning recipes and she loves squash 🙂

    Job well done, Ab!
Could use your blue-ribbon expertise on a display at the farm market!
See you tomorrow morning at 9 am?

Nice try, MOM. The exclaimation points gave it away. I’ll be sleeping late tomorrow…

  10. Congratulations on the Best of Show!! That is quite an honor.

  11. Congratulations Abbie! Maybe your magical baking powers will rub off on me if I visit you more. We’ll be home this Thanksgiving.

    Congrats again!

Berry Bird- I agree, I’m honored!

Jessica- Yay! We should be around that weekend… unless we decide to head to Maine. Let’s try to get together!
