Thaw
Sunday Stroll
A week ago, a storm brought us over a foot of snow. Between yesterday’s rain and today’s temperatures in the 50’s, it’s mostly gone, so my stroll felt surprisingly spring-like.
A vine wraps around a little tree
A big tree reaches up into the blue sky
Needles of the white pine get a break from the heavy snow
The woodpile sits, idly waiting for the mercury to dip again
The weather was so beautiful today that I spent a good hour after my stroll sitting in the sun, reading and dreaming about fruit trees, laying hens and my vegetable garden. What does your weather look like today?

Playing in the Snow
Sunday Stroll
We got about a foot of snow between when we went to sleep last night and when we woke up this morning, which meant Ed had some digging out to do today.
It may look like he’s working, plowing the driveway with the scraper blade on his tractor, but don’t let that fool you.
That’s a great big smile on his face, just like a little kid playing in the snow.
Oh, and when the snowmobile came out, that’s when the fun really began. It was too chilly for me, though, and I spent most of the day inside baking Christmas cookies.

Sunny Sunday Stroll
It was almost 70 and sunny today, so I threw the windows open and headed outside for my stroll.
The pink roses are the only remnants of summer. Everywhere else, winter is clearly on its way.
An old barbed wire fence post stands out in the woods.
This birdhouse was knocked down in the wind. Fortunately, I found it undamaged and put it back up.
A little pile of wood from a dead tree that Ed cut down waits at the edge of the lawn.

Almost Home
Sunday Stroll
I spent this absolutely beautiful afternoon out and about. The temps were in the mid-60’s and the sun was shining, so my mom picked me up in the mustang convertible (which I swore I wouldn’t ride in again until May). We brought lunch to my dad and brother Jon at work on his house, then stopped to visit Mema.
My mom’s family farm is in the next town over, minutes from here. They were a dairy farm for many years until recently, and the farm still has many hints to its past.
The identity of this family farm has changed over time. They now board horses under the name “Almost Home Barn.”
This majestic horse is 31 years young.
This horse was snoozing on and off.
Mema, Auntie Mare and me visiting by the horses. It was a great day to visit in the sun, and may be our last warm weekend until spring.
There are still cows, out grazing in the pasture.
