Independence Day

On this 4th of July, my parents and brothers are in Vermont, and Ed’s parents and sister are in Maine, so we were on our own.  We decided to go fishing this afternoon with Chris and Melissa.

My first catch, a blackfish! We used clams and hermit crabs as bait.  Although I caught blackfish and porgies, none of my fish were big enough to keep.

Ed shows off his blackfish.

Chris catches a big blackfish.

Melissa’s catch.  She caught blackfish, porgies, and bluefish.

Ed catches a sea bass.  We caught our limit of blackfish and were heading home when Chris spotted the birds that showed him where the sea bass were.

Faulkner’s Island off the coast of Guilford.  We saw a seal close to here, resting on a rock but I couldn’t get a good picture of it.

The dredge boat, named after Melissa.

Our catch.  We caught 8 blackfish, 1 porgie, 2 bluefish and 2 sea bass.  We got back too late to clean and cook them tonight, but tomorrow we’ll be having fried fish! Talk about local food! Oh, and my big toe made this picture at the bottom…

I wish we could be in Beals for the Lobster Boat race!

We went fishing right off the coast of Guilford, by Faulkner’s Island. Chris has a special secret spot that I cannot reveal…
